Safety tips

general-safety-tips

Although we do not like to think about it, accidents can happen at any time. At home, at work, on holiday or in the car, it can only take a second for you to suddenly find yourself in a life threatening situation.

While we can by no means prepare for these emergencies, there are certain measures that we can take to minimize the chances of accidents occurring (Tips on these can be viewed by clicking on the links above).

If you are confronted with a medical emergency, the following points are vital to ensure the fastest treatment possible:

water safety

Learn to swim and make sure that your children are taught to swim properly. In a water-loving country like South Africa we spend a lot of time in the summer around water, be it at the beach, at a river, lake or dam, in a swimming pool, or even in a paddling pool.

road safety

More than 14 000 people are killed in accidents on South Africa’s roads every year. With this in mind, ER24 would like to offer South Africans a few simple tips for when they are traveling on long car journeys:

  • Wear your seatbelt, and make sure everyone else in the car is wearing theirs.

  • Do not speed or overtake recklessly - it’s better to get there slowly than not at all.

  • Use daytime running lights (i.e. switch your headlights on) as this remarkably increases your visibility to other vehicles.

At Home

For all parents, watching their child grow up is one of the greatest joys that they’ll ever know. One minute squirming helplessly on a blanket, the next charging around at high speeds, exploring everything within reach. Tragically though, for some South African parents, this is a joy that they’ll never know. Numerous children’s lives are cut short every year in our country by accidents that could have been prevented.
