We operate from 49 bases throughout South Africa to provide realhelprealfast. Backed by a strong footprint in all major metropolitan areas and towns, we offer extensive support to private and public hospitals throughout the country. We provide a range of international services. Our local and international aeromedical evacuation service provides clinical excellence and cost containment, meeting the needs of our clients.
In 1999 our shareholder, Mediclinic International, expanded its operations strategy to establish ER24, an emergency medical services company.
As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mediclinic International, part of the Remgro Group of companies, the group operates 49 private hospitals and 2 day clinics throughout South Africa and 3 hospitals in Namibia with more than 7 900 beds in total, which extends ER24’s footprint globally. Mediclinic International currently has three operating divisions – Mediclinic Southern Africa which operates 52 private hospitals and 2 day clinics in South Africa and Namibia; Hirslanden which operates 16 private hospitals and 4 clinics in Switzerland and Mediclinic Middle East which operates 5 private hospitals and 38 clinics in the United Arab Emirates. The group also holds a minority interest of 29.9% in Spire Healthcare Group plc, a leading private hospital group in the United Kingdom and also listed on the LSE.

Our Clinical Governance
Our clinical team, headed up by our Chief Medical Officer, is responsible for the following:
- Implementation of best practice clinical protocols and guidelines to ensure clinical excellence.
- Education of our clinical staff to ensure compliance with best practice guidelines.
- Assistance with concurrent case management of high-risk cases.
- Interaction with referring and/or receiving specialists/hospitals to ensure optimal clinical outcomes and most appropriate facility.
- Retrospective clinical governance and clinical review of ER24 and contracted provider EMS claims to ensure compliance with our documented EMS protocols and legal requirements.

ER24 owns its fleet of more than 280 Rapid Response Vehicles and Ambulances, and operates a national 24-hour Emergency Contact Centre.
ER24 also has a comprehensive training facility with the capacity to conduct medical emergency services training that ranges from first aid to advanced life support courses. To extend and enhance the reach of their services, ER24 contracts with other reputable service providers in outlying areas. This includes helicopter and fixed-wing air ambulances in strategically located areas to minimise flight response time.
Emergency Contact Centre Services
ER24 owns its national 24-hour emergency Contact Centre. This facility has the technological capacity to provide a broad range of emergency medical services, including dispatching of emergency medical resources by air.
We employ 100 staff in various departments in the Contact Centre, with tasks ranging from taking calls to evaluating the nature and severity of a situation, and dispatching the resources necessary to contain a given situation.
